Motorcyclist perishes in Sunday, Feb. 9 accident

A motorcyclist lost his life in a tragic accident that took place on Sunday night, Feb. 9 in the city limits of Hallettsville.
According to a report from the Hallettsville Police Department, the accident took place shortly before 9 p.m. on the Lavaca County bridge when a motorcycle was traveling east-bound at a high rate of speed and attempted to pass around an 18-wheeler.
The report said the motorcyclist (name withheld) was unable to correct or brake and struck the concrete at the entrance of the north side of the bridge.
He was then ejected from his motorcycle and thrown into the Lavaca River bed below the bridge.
Hallettsville police officers and Lavaca County Sheriff’s Office deputies attempted cardiopulmonary resuscitation until the Lavaca County EMS arrived on the scene.
The victim was transferred to Lavaca Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased.
The Hallettsville Police Department would like to thank all first responders and the good samaritans for their assistance with this accident.
