Moulton ISD gears up for 2023-24 school year
Moulton ISD is gearing up for the 2023-24 school year with the completion of several projects.
One of the things the district is looking at is a complete refinishing of the tennis court slated to start the first couple weeks of August.
“ The booster club has agreed to pay $6,000 of the refinishing cost. We want to go ahead and have that project updated,” Superintendent Renee Fairchild said. “This is a good opportunity for us and our community. We replaced the lights awhile back, so this will just complete the re-doing of the tennis courts.”
Come and Clean It will start a deep cleaning at the high school July 2 5th and 26th. “This is everything from the walls, floows, equipment, chairs, and desks,” Fairchild said. “We’re in the process of moving and cleaning out. We want it to be a nice instructional space.”
Maintenance is also doing cosmetic repairments for the schools including painting both set of stairs.
“Over the course of the year, the high school will see the different things taking shape like the wood getting replaced,” Fairchild said.
The electric for the upper windows in the old gym and the lower window jam replacement will also occur next week.
Moulton ISD will be revamping the interior door locks to allow quicker access into the classrooms for law enforcement and fire if needed. Part of the repairs will be covered from the safety and security grant.
We have been working all year on making sure that our buildings are safe,” Fairchild said. “One of those requirements is making sure that our doors safely lock. We also have to provide for law enforcement, including fire departments, the opportunity to get into our buildings quickly. The way that our locks are right now, it takes multiple keys to get into our classrooms. One of the things we want to do is replace all of the locks on all of the doors so that there is a single or two keys, at most, that will operate any lock. We also want to renumber all of the classrooms to coincide with that building that the classroom is in. This will allow swifter access for law enforcement to find those buildings and rooms.”
On last month’s agenda, consideration of a fan donation to Sweet Home ISD was taken. Upon further consideration, the fan will be offered in the upcoming auction. The auction will be open to the public on the second and third week of August. Other items in the auction will be revealed soon.
Starting this fall, insurance for staff members will be seeing an increase of $30 per month. The board voted to increase the district contribution for each employee by that amount to off set the cost to the employee. There was also discussion about looking at different insurance providers. The insurance carrier currently used by the district has to have notice by December 31st if there will be a change in the future.
Moulton ISD also received a UIL plaque for being 3rd in the state Division 1A in Academic UIL.
The district welcomes the new high school principal, Penny Irwin.
“It’s been great so far, everybody I met (in the district) has been wonderful,” Irwin said. “I’m excited to work with these kiddos. I have old connections to Moulton, I used to come here about once a month when I was in high school.”
