RWOYA hosting candidate forums on Jan. 13, Feb. 7 in Yoakum
In keeping with their mission of educating voters, the Republican Women of the Yoakum Area are providing two opportunities for citizens to hear from Republican candidates looking to win your vote in the upcoming March primary election.
Forums have been scheduled for Saturday, Jan 13, and Wednesday, Feb. 7, at the Yoakum Community Center, 105 Huck St. in Yoakum.
Local candidates are invited to participate in meet-and-greets of both forums.
The schedule for the Jan. 13 event featuring federal and state candidates is as follows:
• 4 p.m., Candidate’s Table Set Up.
• 5 p.m., Doors open to the public.
• 5-6 p.m., Candidate Meet-and-Greet, with light refreshments
• 6 p.m., Forum with candidate questions begins (state and federal candidates only).

As with the January event, all candidates in attendance will be recognized once again, and all are welcome to take part in scheduled meet-and-greets.
All regional, district, and local candidates have been invited to participate in those.
State and federal candidates for U.S. House District 27, currently held by Congressman Michael Cloud, District 30 State Representatives, which Jeanie Morrison, the longtime state house representative from Victoria, attracted quite a crowd of candidates after she announced late last year that she would not be seeking that office again in 2024.
Several other state candidates for the various judicial seats and other state offices have also been confirmed. They will speak and be asked questions by a moderator.
Campaign materials and signs will be available at candidates’ tables.
The Feb. 7 event caters to local candidates from DeWitt, Lavaca, and Gonzales counties. All will be given an opportunity to make opening and closing statements, and for those in contested races, receive a limited number of questions from a moderator.
The Feb. 7 forum will keep the same basic time schedule as the Jan. 13 event.
