Saltillo team wins 42 Domino state championship
The annual State Championship 42 Domino tournament took place this past Saturday with 149 teams competing for the title.
When the tournament play ended Saturday night, a Saltillo team composed of Gary Mobley and Erika Littrell defeated Peter Rangel of Austin and Travis Muckelroy of Houston to win the championship.
Nathan Wilson and Kyle Orsak, both from Friendswood took third place, while Richard Mach of Dallas and Jim Dwyer of Frankston finished in fourth place.
Finishing in the Top 8 teams, Johnny Walker of Houston and Ike Paulk of Tomball (5th), Paul and Sherry Matney of Murfreesboro, Tennessee (6th), Matt Torno and James Lacy of Liberty Hill (7th) and Jason Hodge and Nathan Hodge of Nacogdoches (8th).
On the consolation side of the bracket, Sabrina and Douglas Braeuer of Shiner took first place by defeating the Edgewood team made up of Chris and Hudson Tull.
Ultimate loser bracket winner went to Mark Technik and Tim Levrier, who defeated Noah Lang and Sharon Roark Thompson.
Best Dressed award went to Ben Benjamin N Lang of Galveston and John Hollis of Apple Springs.
On Friday evening, 101 teams competed in the warm-up rounds with Travis Mixon of Yoakum and Daniel Stepan of Temple taking first place.
The remaining seven teams placing in the warm-up games included Beth Gregory-Abernathy of Bastrop and Jud McGehee of Austin (2nd), Andy Brosh and Rob Hutchins both of Baytown (3rd), Matt Torno and James Lacy of Liberty Hill (4th), Morgan Scott of London and Leslie Houston of Liberty Hill (5th),John Hollis of Apple Springs and Benjamin N. Lang of Galveston (6th), Roy McDaniel and Monte Powell of Clovis, New Mexico (7th), and Jody Badum of Austin and Aaron Kuntschik of Round Rock (8th).
“A huge thank you to everyone who participated, volunteered, and cheered on the players,” Hallettsville CC&A executive director Jennifer Hagan said. “Events like these bring people together and celebrate the love for the game.”
Hagan said the next 42 Domino tournament will take place at the Kolache Fest on Sept. 26-27 and next year’s Texas State Championship 42 Domino Tournament will be held March 6-7
