“January is school board recognition month,” Franz said. “It is a great time to celebrate our hardworking school board members. This emphasizes the critical roles school board members play in shaping the future of our state all without compensation. The School Board members’ goals always focus on the future success of the children in our community.”
The Yoakum ISD officially called for a Trustee Election to be held May 3. Board Trustee Rodney Svec is the only position up for re-election. The first day to file for a place on the ballot for this election is Jan. 15. Feb. 14, is the last day to file.
“Because our School Board represents our community, it is important community members take an active part in elections,” Yoakum ISD Superintendent Tom Kelley said.
Kelley also gave his principal’s report at the School Board meeting. Enrollment numbers are holding steady at 1,444 students. This time last year, there were 1,477 students. The School Board accepted retirement letters from Lynette Pate, business manager and Kathy Hagan, high school teacher effective January and May, respectively.
