Shiner Chamber of Commerce presents annual report
The Shiner Chamber of Commerce presented their 2023 annual report and made some financial requests of the Shiner city council during the council’s regular monthly meeting held Monday, Dec. 4.
“As far back as 2008, the city has supported a certain amount to the chamber, and we are just asking for a slight increase due to inflation,” Chamber executive director Sarah Langhoff said.
The city has historically provided $6,000 to the local Chamber to assist with their operations. Langhoff went before city aldermen Monday requesting that the amount be increased by $2,500 to $8,500.
“That will allow us, hopefully, to hire a part-time student worker to help with office management,” Langhoff said. “That’s our hope. We are also asking for occupancy tax funds. That’s something they have given to us in the past to pay for YOLO, Texas, a syndicated Texas travel show that highlights different communities around the Lone Star State. We’re requesting that as well as some additional advertising.”
All combined, that raised the total Chamber funding request to $9,500—$3,500 more than city coffers provided last year—to which council members opted to delay any action until the new year, tabling any action on those requests until city leaders met again in January 2024.
