SISD chooses new turf for Comanche Stadium, gives construction update

Updates were given regarding the replacement of natural turf for the Comanche Stadium at the Shiner Independent School District meeting March 24.
Board members opted to go with Texas Multichem sports turf.
Construction updates were also given on the new Junior High School building.
“Construction is going really well in the building,” Superintendent Alex Remschel said. “We’re going to do a punch list and walkthrough tomorrow and we’re going to mark down anything that we need to upgrade and improve. They did put the sound dampeners in the hallways now. Those are installed and look great. Our staff is very appreciative of that. It really does a good job of getting rid of a lot of the noise in there.”
A Texas Association of School Boards update was also reported on at the meeting.
“The updates were little things,” Remschel said. “For example, there were changes on the ‘employee standards of conduct.’ Instead of saying ‘no tobacco or E-Cigarettes,’ it’s including the nicotine pouches that people use like ‘Zen.’ It’s including that even though there’s no tobacco involved in that.”
Other items on the agenda include:
• A new bus has come in for the school district.
• The school spent money on water leak repairs.
• Enrollment numbers have increased to 701 students. One student was added in fifth grade and another in tenth grade.
• Board members approved the Certification of Provision of Instructional Materials Survey for the 2025-26 school year. This basically states that the school is using only state adopted instructional materials.
• Board members received the quarterly investment report.
