Summers retains mayor seat

Hallettsville city mayor Alice Jo Summers retained her seat following elections held Saturday.

In a low turnout of city residents voting, only 153 votes were cast with Summers soundly defeating challenger Gordon G. Clark picking up 88.89% of the votes.

Summers collected 136 total votes that included 15 absentee, 77 early voters and 44 on election day, while Clark picked up 17 total votes including 8 absentee, 6 early voters, and 3 on election day.

City councilwoman Audrey Vaclavik Barrera and councilman Billy Barrera ran unopposed and will continue to occupy their seats (Place 2 and 5, respectively) on council.

Area Elections

In the Shiner ISD election, there was only one contested race with Cullen Harper (120) winning over Julie Boehm (109) for the Place 3 chair, while Keith Kieschnick and Cindy Lawrence were unopposed to win the Place 5 and 6 chair on the board of trustees.

The Moulton ISD had three contested races with Cody Maresh (214) defeating Debra Luksovsky (154) for the Place 1 position, while Jill Moore (191) beat Robert B. Nieto (178) for the Place 2 seat and Jordan Dees (186) won the Place 6 seat over Clifton M. Miller (171).

Elizabeth Buehring Smolik and Sherry Fishbeck ran unopposed and will occupy the Place 3 and 5 positions on the Moulton ISD Board of Trustees.

According to the Lavaca County election administrator’s office there were a total of 5,686 voters eligible to vote in the respective elections with 13.28% (755) voters turning out to cast a ballot.

The reported votes are all considered unofficial until the respective entities canvass the votes.
