Suspects remain at large following Tuesday, May 6 bail out
Two subjects, who evaded Lavaca County Sheriff deputies in a bail out last Tuesday, May 6 remain at large according to Sheriff Steven Greenwell.
According to a LCSO Facebook post, the bail out took place in western Lavaca County that eventually led to a search in the CR 240 area.
The post reported that the incident took place on Tuesday afternoon, May 6, when the LCSO intercepted a truck stolen out of Brazoria County in between Shiner and Moulton.
The vehicle had two occupants, both described as Hispanic males.
When the deputy attempted to conduct a stop of the vehicle, it refused to pull over and a pursuit ensued which eventually led to multiple law enforcement agencies throughout Lavaca County joining in the pursuit.
The report said the truck eventually ran through multiple barbed wire fences until finally coming to a stop in a pasture, around the area of Highway 77 North and CR 240 where the two occupants bailed out of the vehicle.
A LCSO deputy pursued on foot to chase of the two Hispanic males and was eventually joined by a Shiner Police Department patrol sergeant.
As the chase continued, the two subjects eventually made it into thick brush making it difficult to locate them.
At this time, the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) kennel/horse team were called on scene to assist with the search.
In addition, Texas Department of Public Safety troopers, the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office, the Moulton PD and the Texas Game Wardens joined in the search of the two subjects. Also called to assist was a drone deployed by Lavaca County EMS.
The kennel dogs led the search team from the thick brush line to a thicker brush line making it even more difficult to locate the two subjects.
To make matters worse, a few hours later a rainstorm moved in to the area and efforts to locate the two subjects were suspended.
The next day, May 7, efforts continued in the search, which included the area of Highway 77 North and CR 240, but remained unsuccessful.
The two bail out subjects were described as being in their late twenties and each being less than six foot tall.
The LCSO ask residents to be on the lookout for any suspicious vehicles or persons and although the descriptions were vague, it is believed they discarded some of their clothing.
Also, the sheriff ’s office reminds residents to lock their doors of their homes as well as their vehicles.
Intelligence received led law enforcement to believe these two males were possibly scouting for an additional vehicle to steal.
The LCSO Facebook post said the Lavaca County Sheriff ’s Office will work relentlessly with any and all other law enforcement at all levels of government to protect the citizens of Lavaca County and preserve our way of life.
Any suspicious activity should be reported to the LCSO at 361- 798-2121.
