Time to return to standard time
It’s time to move our clocks back one hour with Daylight Saving Time beginning during the pre-dawn hours Sunday morning, Nov. 5.
The official change to standard time takes place at 2 a.m., but you are recommended to set your clocks back one hour before retiring for the night on Saturday evening.
In addition to moving clocks back one-hour, this is also a good time to check smoke detectors in your home and change the batteries if needed.
We will remain on standard time through the winter months and return to daylight saving time on Sunday, March 10, 2024.
Time Change Debate:
The debate over whether to keep Daylight Saving Time a year-round practice or continue changing times every November and March has been ongoing in both the Federal and State congresses.
Could we be nearing the end of having to change our clocks every November and March, that remains to be seen.
At one point, the U.S. Senate passed the Sunshine Protection Act to make daylight saving time permanent and ending the twice-annual changing of clocks.
However, the U.S. House of Representatives only introduced their bill pertaining to Daylight Saving Time in a committee meeting, but went no further and as a result no action was taken.
As far as the Texas State Legislature, this past April the House chamber voted overwhelmingly to approve a bill seeking the end of changing the clocks twice a year and stay with Daylight Saving Time.
However, the bill went to the Texas Senate and the senators didn’t agree and wanted to allow Texas voters to make the decision.
With Texas deciding on 14 amendments this Tuesday, the matter of voting to keep Daylight Saving Time permanent is not on the ballot and so come next March the practice of changing the clock will continue on until further notice.
