Updates on new restaurant presented at YEDC meeting
By Clayton Kelley
Updates were presented on Navy Tang’s new restaurant at the Yoakum Economic Development Corporation meeting Jan. 28.
The YEDC paid the first phase of their grant to Tang’s soon-to-be new restaurant Navy’s Place. The grant is in the amount of $100,000 and is being paid in phases, rather than one-lumpsum.
Navy’s Place will be located right next to YK Deli and is an expansion of that establishment.
“Construction is coming along,” Mayor Carl O’ Neill said. “They got the drywall finished and the plumbing is finished as well.”
Tang revealed the new menu for her restaurant at the meeting.
“It will be a seafood and Chinese food restaurant,” Tang said. “One thing that will be different about this is that it will be a full dinein restaurant. We have 25 tables, and we will be making more food in there. We will offer grilled foods and Chinese food like orange and sesame chicken and also lo mein. On the grilled side, we will have grilled shrimp, red snapper, and catfish. We will also have fried oysters and fried scallops. There will be sides such as coleslaw and mashed potatoes.”
The new restaurant is expected to open in April.
Other items on the agenda include:
• The financial report was given by Director of Finance Debbie Gray. It was reported that $10,000 was spent for maintenance of the YEDC’s new website.
• Updates were provided on YEDC’s comprehensive plan.
