Want to learn more about who’s running?

Several events are planned to help inform voters in choices they face in several state and federal races this year, not to mention three challenged contests right here in Lavaca County, including the races for sheriff, county attorney and Precinct 1 county commissioner (see related story).
We compiled the following to assist you in planning your events calendar for the start of the new year:
• Thursday, Dec 21 at 6:30 p.m.— Lavaca County Primary Candidates Ballot Draw, local candidates will hold a drawing for name placement on the ballots. No longer is the incumbent always on the top of the ballot, nor is it in alphabetical order
It’s left strictly to chance, and that takes place at Cheryl Thompson-Draper’s office, 108 N. LaGrange St. in Hallettsville, on the east side of the courthouse square.

• Jan. 13, 2024 — Republican Women of Yoakum Area (RWOYA) candidate forum (Location TBA)
• Jan. 29, 2024 — Great State Republicans (GSR) candidate forum at Hallettsville High School, evening
• Jan. 31, 2024 — Last day to register to vote in March 1 primary election
• Feb. 7, 2024 — Republican Women of Yoakum Area (RWOYA) candidate forum (Location TBA)
• Feb. 20, 2024, to March 1, 2024 — Early voting for the March 2024 Primary Election
• March 5, 2024 — Republican Party Primary Election Day
