Water Tower gets cleaning and added safety features

The City of Yoakum City Council approved funding for an improvement project for the Laredo Street Water Tower earlier this year. After the bidding process, the contractor was selected and crews moved in to begin the process on Feb. 26. City of Yoakum staff worked to ensure the tower was safely emptied while maintaining adequate water flow to all parts of town. The project will include sandblasting, sterilizing, and repainting the entire tower. During the project, the contractor will also install a wider access hatch, bringing the tower into new state-mandated guidelines. Tarps will be utilized to minimize the dust from the sandblasting and residual paint mist throughout the project. City of Yoakum staff and City Council are confident the improvement will assist in maintaining the vital structure for our community for many years to come, while freshening the look of the landscape.
