YEDC discusses website updates

By Clayton Kelley

More updates were given on the Yoakum Economic Development Corporation’s website at the March 18 meeting.

“It’s coming along nicely,” YEDC Executive Director Genora Young said. “I’m still waiting to hear back from a couple of industries. Right now, I’m hitting on the top ten ones that have been here the longest.”

Prior to launching the website, the YEDC needs to list more commercial properties and finish the industry portion.

“They are also working on the transportation information and the healthcare information for the website” Young said. “They’re currently uploading the maps of our location and transportation routes. I’m also going to meet with Judge Daryl Fowler (of DeWitt County) to discuss any incentives that DeWitt County may offer. I would like to include that on the website.”

Young also will be informing the Judge about updates on the Industrial Park II in Yoakum.

The YEDC is also still looking for professional quality photos to include on the website to promote the variety of existing local industries. Photo specifications are 1mp file size and as close to a 2000px image ratio as possible. For more information contact Young at gyoung@yoakumtx.gov or call the YEDC office at 361-407-2655.

The financial report was also given by Director of Finance Debbie Gray at the YEDC meeting. It was reported that they gave the annual comptroller report to the state.

“It includes what are revenues and our expenses were to the state for the previous fiscal year,” Gray said.

It was also reported that sales tax revenues were down to $40,000.

“February’s sales tax revenue was $62,000,” Gray said. “Everybody shops in December and not so much in January. This is still good because we used to average in the $30,000 range.”

A second payment in the amount of $23,000 was also made to Navy Tang’s new restaurant, Navy’s Place. It will be located next to YK Deli and is an expansion of that restaurant offering more Asian cuisines. Phase three payment will come next week.

Other items on the agenda include:

• The Texas Economic Development Council recognized the YEDC for economic excellence.

• The YEDC board voted to move the YEDC meetings from the third Monday of every month to the third Tuesday. The next YEDC meeting will be Tuesday, April 15 at 11:30 a.m.
