YEDC presents check to Yoakum American Legion Post 395

  • The Yoakum Economic Development Corporation (YEDC) Board of Directors presented $3,011 to the Yoakum American Legion Post 395. The matching grant funded the 16’X18’ concrete slab that is the foundation for the recently renovated World War II M1 57 MM AntiTank Gun purchased by the local Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 2456 somewhere between 1951 and 1952.     The cannon was donated to the City of Yoakum in December of 2000. The YEDC has been committed to assisting local organizations in beautification efforts for many years. The project not only renovated the historic cannon, it also provided a suitable resting place that will preserve, protect, and display the piece of history for many years. Partnering with civic-minded groups such as our local American Legion, the YEDC hopes to continue to build pride in our community and encourage unity among our citizens.
