YISD receives construction updates on CTE Building and Baseball Field

By Clayton Kelley

Construction updates were given by Weaver and Jacobs on both the new Career and Technology Education (CTE) building and Baseball Field at the Dec. 9 Yoakum ISD (YISD) meeting.

Starting with the CTE building, there has been some headway

“We started last Monday with steel erection,” Weaver and Jacobs Representative Shawn Brandt said. “We got the concrete foundation poured and they started steel erection last Monday between Monday and Wednesday. Everything is up as far as the main frame. We got the galvanized structure in. Next up, as far as structure goes, we’re waiting on the roof insulation system."

"Blocks will be laid out soon for the building as well. We’ll then be working on the walls as well including the interior,” Brandt said.

The Maintenance building is also coming along as well.

“Metal panels will be implemented in the interior of that building,” Brandt said. Regarding the Baseball Field, everything as far as the field goes is complete.

“Everything turf wise is complete,” Brandt said. “We have the outfield fence completed as well. The score board has also been raised a total of four feet. We also have the lights done at the field. It is LED lighting. We’ll also be pouring the footings for the canopy by the bleachers as well.”

There will be concrete poured outside the baseball field next as well and work is being done on the storm drainage around the field. The concession stand near the baseball field is also being worked on. The parking lots may also be shifted as well.
