Yoakum ISD to celebrate Texas Public Schools Week through March 8

Yoakum Independent School District (YISD) will honor Texas Public Schools Week March 4-8.

“Public schools across the state are committed to laying the groundwork for a quality education,” said Tom Kelley, YISD Superintendent. “YISD provides a solid foundation beginning with the dedicated efforts of our educators, and adding the support of parents and the community. We strive to equip our students with the tools necessary to succeed in life,” said Mr. Kelley.

Now more than ever, we need to support public schools by sharing the good news of Texas public education and ensure enhanced opportunities for future generations of Texans.

The following campuses have planned activities for Public Schools Week:

Yoakum Primary School: Students will be learning about our great state of Texas during the week, including Texas history, culture, state flower, state bird, state tree, and much more. Yoakum Primary School will be hosting an Open House 7:30-9 a.m. today.

On March 7, there will be a chili cook-off and Dr. Suess Dress-Up Day. The week will end with a Texas Fair during P.E. and Dr. Suess Reading Day on March 8.

Yoakum Primary Annex: Students will be learning all about the symbols of Texas. The cafeteria will be decorated with the students’ artwork. On March 8, students will have a Western Dress-Up Day.

DeWitt-Lavaca Special Education Cooperative (DLSEC): DLSEC RISE Program high school students will be baking homemade cobblers to deliver to each of the nine member districts’ administration offices.
