Fiddlers Frolics set for April 22-24

The 51st annual Fiddlers Frolics will take place next weekend, April 22-24, with a top cast of entertainers lined up to appear on Friday and Saturday evening of the three-day event.

The Frolics will kickoff Friday, April 22 traditional Cajun Fun Night starting at 5 p.m.

Organizers of the event invite you out to come taste the crawfish, gumbo, red beans and rice that will be prepared as well as sample the barbecue and hamburgers.

Inside the hall, the Anything Goes fiddle contest will take place at 6 p.m. followed at 6:30 with Cajun Show where the music and entertainment will be provided by Waylon Thibodeaux, Keith Junot, Bonnie Riley and Chris Rybak performing throughout the evening.

On Saturday, April 23, the day will begin with the Forest Craig Freshman Division competition beginning at 9 a.m. and throughout the morning.

Starting at 1 p.m., the Gone To Texas contest will be held and from 8:30 p.m. to 1 a.m. Texas Music at its best with Broken Alibi and Jake Worthington sharing the stage.

Also, on Saturday afternoon, under the BBQ Pavilion, Chris Rybak, Keith Junot and Bonnie Riley will share the stage starting at 1 p.m. to entertain those attending.

Activities continue Sunday morning, April 24 with the Guitar Accompanist contest held starting at 9:30 a.m.

At 10:30 a.m., inside the hall, the Texas Fiddlers Hall of Fame induction will take place followed at 11:30 a.m., with the Senior division fiddle contest will be held, where contestants 65 years or older, will compete.

The highlight of the event will begin at 1 p.m. Sunday afternoon with the Texas State Fiddle contest taking place.

Fiddle contestants, who are Texas residents, will perform to see who will where the crown as this year’s state champion fiddler.

The fiddlers will compete throughout the afternoon and will culminate with the Cliff & Velda Fryer championship playoff starting at 5 p.m.

The playoff will feature the top three finalists performing in round robin segments with the winner named the Texas State Champion Fiddler for 2022.

Outside the hall activities on Sunday will start at 10 a.m. with the barbecue showmanship award presented and the Texas State Championship Barbecue Cook-off judging to take place later in the day.

Also on Sunday, Bobby Flores will perform on the BBQ Pavilion stage from 2 to 6 p.m.

The weekend promises a wide-variety of entertainment including music, as well as arts & crafts booths, various types of foods available, and fun for the entire family.
