TWO HISTORICAL MARKERS DEDICATED AT KC PARK SATURDAY

Everybody manages to have a first, occasionally, and for Lavaca County Historical Commission’s Doug Kubicek, he said his first came just this past

Saturday, April 23, right here in Shiner. For it was on that day, just a little after 10 p.m., that Doug says he led his first ever dedication ceremony for

not just one but TWO historical markers that went up just outside the Shiner KC Hall. Representatives from Shiner KC Council No. 3081, the Shiner

American Legion and the local Boy Scouts got together with members of the Patek family and others in the community who gathered that windy

morning to recognize two Shiner institutions—Bluecher Park, which is what they once called the entire block which holds the landmark KC Hall,

its biergarten, and surrounding pavilions; and the Joe Patek Orchestra, who left his mark on the music world, as well as a unforgettable legacy for

generations of Shiner musicians to emulate—and share few stories besides. Be watching, too, the pages of your local newspaper, because those

KCs aren’t finished quite yet, Shiner Grand Knight Reggie Guettner announced to the crowd Saturday. Yet one more marker will be installed soon,

right beside those two, this one honoring the Shiner Hobo Band. Watch for news of that ceremony as that date nears, all right here in your Shiner
