JASEK STILL FIDDLING STRONG AT 90
Daniel Jasek of Moulton might have been the oldest man to pick up a fiddle in Sunday’s senior division competition rounds at the 51st annual
Fiddlers Frolics in Hallettsville, but it sure didn’t seem to slow him down a lick. Rather, Jasek broke out all the stops, even performing
what he called “Popo’s Polka,” a song he wrote for his 16 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Even that, however, wasn’t enough
to walk away with first place and the $300 cash award. That went to Brad Riley, 66, of Waller, who inched eight points past Jasek to claim
the win with a score of 543-535. Others in their division were Brent Young, 74, of Anna, in third place with 512 points; Ed Henson, 87, of
Decatur, in fourth place with 495 points; and Ed Glass, 73, of Katy, in fifth place with 492 points. Photo by Bobby Horecka
