Svec reelected to YISD after running unopposed
The Yoakum ISD School Board welcomed Rodney Svec back for another term with a group that has a combined 75 years of experience as YISD trustees.
After running unopposed, Svec repeated the oath of office administered by Paula Janota at the June 13 meeting at the YISD Administration Building. His school board trustee experience began after being appointed in 2016.
The trustees voted to organize themselves with Glen Kusak serving as board president, Terry Boening as vice-president, Darlene Renken as secretary and Amanda Fling as assistant secretary.
The district is positioned to enter a year following preliminary standardized-test results that indicate improved passing rates.
YISD Superintendent Tom Kelley said after the meeting that he was optimistic about continuing work with the board as the new school year approaches.
“They’re very supportive; they care about kids and teachers,” said Kelley of the trustees. “They’re very excited to work with them because they’re in it for the right reasons: support teachers, support students (and) support staff.”
