Brahmas Abuse Van Vlek
The issue was never in doubt as the Hallettsville Brahmas abused Van Vleck, 46-0, here Friday night.
The Brahmas accumulated a season-high 400 yards in the contest - 318 rushing and 82 passing.
“I was pleased with the way the boys played for the most part,” head coach Levi Montgomery said. “Anytime you get a shut out on defense, you’re going be happy about that. Offensively, we spread the ball around to multiple players and the offensive line is blocking well.”
Halfback Jashaun Price accounted for 141 yards rushing on 13 carries and three touchdowns. Price had touchdown runs of 55, 2 and 10 yards.
Quarterback Jorian Wilson was 6 of 14 passing for 118 yards and a touchdown. Mycole Pegoda was the leading receiver with four 29 yards.
Hallettsville (3-0) posted its second shutout in a row in holding the Leopards to 164 yards. The Leopards committed five turnovers with Ty Tomek and Colt Edmonds recovering fumbles with Edmonds producing a scoop and score. Gage Norris, Trey Satterwhite and Layne Gerke had interceptions.
Hallettsville went three-and-out on its first possession, but on the next drive, Gerke, who rushed for 80 yards on just 4 carries, scored on a 67-yard.
Price ran 55 yards for a touchdown with 55 seconds left in the first quarter and Tomek kicked the point after.
With 8:35 remaining in the second quarter, Price scored from the 2 for a 20-0 lead.
Wilson capped a 66- yard, 7-play drive by going in from the 2.
The Brahmas made it 27-0 at the half on a 43-yard touchdown pass from Wilson to Jordan Harper-Murphy.
Price scored from 10 yards out with 9:40 to go in the third quarter. Tomek set up the score with a fumble recovery at the Leopard 30.
Edmonds scored on a fumble recovery for the final Brahma touchdown.
