Brahmas defeat S'burg 50-39
The Hallettsville Brahmas pulled away from Schulenburg in the fourth quarter to post a 50-39 victory here Tuesday, November 21.
The Brahmas (1-1) led 23-22 at the intermission and increased the lead to 32-28 going into the fourth quarter.
In the fourth period, Dave Johnson went crazy at the free throw line and made 6 of 7 attempts. The Brahmas built up a 45-35 lead on two follow shots by Nathan Henke and one by Jorian Wilson.
“Our kids played hard the entire game. We we re c o a ch ab l e and made some adjustments,” coach Brock Gerlich said. “We have a lot of mistakes to fix but that is expected at the beginning of the year. We have a long way to go before district starts and we will keep improving everyday.”
The Brahmas couldn’t get out of their way of themselves with six first-quarter turnovers, enabling the Shorthorns to take a 13-10 lead at the first break.
Two treys by William Mundine and five free throws by Johnson helped Hallettsville to the one-point lead at the half.
Mundine and Johnson scored 12 points each. Rodney Walton had a game- high 13 points for the Shorthorns. Mundine was 3 of 7 from behind the arc.
The Brahmas ended up with 13 turnovers and Schulenburg committed 7.
Wilson gathered 11 rebounds and Henke had 8 while Jashaun Price had 5 steals and 6 assists.
