Lady Brahmas earn top seed in District 25-AAA
ALTAIR – The Hallettsville Lady Brahmas had to hold off a late rally by Edna to take a 53-46 victory over the Cowgirls in the playoff for the top seed in District 25-AAA at Rice Consolidated High School Friday night.
The LB had what seemed to be a comfortable 41-28 lead going into the fourth quarter before Edna crept within 6 points with 40.2 seconds remaining on a three by Kashya Robinson with 40.2 seconds to go. The LB missed two free throws before Alaina Halata finally made one at the 20 second mark. Two free throws by Kasey Harper with 10 seconds remaining finally sealed the deal.
The first quarter was horrendous with both teams turning the ball over 7 times. Hallettsville just happened to shoot better and took an 11-5 lead at the first break with Halata scoring 6 points.
Managed a 24-17 advantage at the half with Layten Kolacny scoring 5 points and Macy Herring and Harper 4 each.
Adalyn Pohl led a 16-9 third stanza with 7 points that included two threes.
Halata ended up with 17 points and Herring 11. Guerra scored a gamehigh 20 points for Edna, who is 27-7 on the season.
The Lady Brahmas took a 32-5 ledger into the playoffs.

LB 50, Tidehaven 25
The LB overcame a terrible first half to beat Tidehaven here Tuesday, Feb. 6 on Sr. Parents Night.
Hallettsville shot a mere 15.6% in the first half and trailed 16-14 at the half.
But the cream rose to the top in the second half when the winners shot a cool 62.0% to turn the tide.
Kasey Harper scored 6 points in the third period to help the LB take a 32- 23 lead heading down the stretch.
Hallettsville held the Tigerettes to just 2 points in the fourth quarter.
Macy Herring led the Lady Brahmas with 11 points and Layten Kolacny added 10.
The LB committed just 9 turnovers in the contest.
