Brahmas take over second place with 17-1 rout of Industrial

The Hallettsville Brahmas atoned for a 4-2 loss to Industrial in Vanderbilt March 26 with a 17-1 routing of the Cobras at The Hardball Field Friday night.

The victory put the Brahmas (18-6, 10-3) in sole possession of second place in District 25-AAA. Hallettsville visited Columbus Tuesday night in the regular season finale.

Hudson Chenard (8-1) started and worked the first four innings of the five-inning game. The sophomore right-hander gave up five hits, walked one and struck out four.

Luke Henneke tossed the final inning and gave up a hit with a strikeout.

The Brahmas bashed out 15 hits with Monte Thigpen and Tanner Wagner having three each, Josh Griffin and Brock Bludau two and Andrew George, Luke Henneke, Preston Wagner and Chenard one.

The Cobras went up 1-0 in the top of on a runscoring single by Cooper Martin.

The Brahmas went down 1-2-3 in the bottom of the first before putting up a huge crooked number with 11 runs in the second inning.

Travis Wagner singled to left to start the frame, Carter Blaha was safe on an error and both moved up on a sacrifice bunt by Josh Griffin. Chenard slapped a two-run single to center for two runs batted in. Brock Bludau’s base hit scored Chenard. Bludau drove in two more runs with a base hit, his second at-bat in the inning.

BRAHMAS 9, TIDEHAVEN 8 (9)

Baseball was set back a few years in the Brahmas’ 9-8, extra inning victory over the Tigers here Tuesday, April 16.

It was only fitting that the Brahmas would win on a walk-off error in the bottom of the ninth. Josh Griffin was walked on four straight pitches before Hudson Chenard was hit by a pitch on a 0-2 count. Preston Wagner laid down a bunt which the Tiger catcher picked up the ball and threw it down the left field line to easily score Griffin.

Tidehaven had just one hit, but took advantage of four Brahma errors and nine walks issued by three Brahma pitchers.

Connor Kopecky started and worked four innings. He gave up five runs (one earned), walked four, the lone Tiger hit and struck out.

Brock Bludau relieved Kopecky and didn’t have much luck before Jorian Wilson relieved him and faced 15 batters, striking out five with one walk and giving up an unearned run.

The Brahmas got off to a rocky start when the Tigers scored three runs in the top of the first on no hits and two errors.

The Brahmas scored five runs in the bottom of the first. Andrew George drew back-to-back walks. Monte Thigpen hit a ringing double to left center to score George before Wilson came across on a wild pitch. The inning continued with Tanner Wagner reaching on an error, and after a strikeout, Griffin and Hudson Chenard both walked on four pitches. Preston Wagner looped a single to right to score two runs for a 5-3 lead.

Hallettsville increased the lead to 8-3 with three runs in the second inning on three hits and a walk.

George singled to left field and Wilson walked on a full count. After a strikeout, Tanner Wagner went opposite field with a base hit to left to plate George. Tanner Wagner was wild pitched to second prior to Carter Blaha’s base hit that scored two runs.

The Brahma offense went south after the second inning and stranded six runners until the ninth.

Meanwhile, Tidehaven kept pecking away at the lead, scoring two runs in the third inning on a walk, a hit batter and a sacrifice fly by Christian Jechan Duran and an error.

Two runs in the fifth inning and one in the sixth tied the game at 8-all.
