Early voting in bond elections continue

Early in-person voting started in the Hallettsville ISD three-proposition bond election as well as the City of Hallettsville bond election.

Voters can cast their ballot at the Lavaca County Annex building at 412 N. Texana St.

Early voting will take place through Friday as well as next Monday, April 29 and Tuesday, April 30 with voting hours from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The general election will also take place at the Annex building and will be held on Saturday, May 4 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The HISD bond includes three propositions:

• Prop A – District-wide safety/security ($1,800,000).

• Prop B – Junior High renovation/expansion ($9,325,000).

• Prop C – Athletic facility upgrades ($28,245,000).

Voters can vote for each proposition separately and the total bond package is $39.37 million.

There are three unopposed trustee positions listed on the ballot including Brian Smith (Place 1), Holly Cliffe (Place 2) and Sharesce Sidney (Place 3).

In the City of Hallettsville, the proposed bond calls for the issuance of $6 million in general obligation bonds for street and related utility improvements and the levy of taxes sufficient to pay the principal of and interest on the bonds.

In addition, there are three unopposed city council positions listed including Chasity Grant Carter (Place 1), Trent Skelton (Place 3) and Dean Madden (Place 4).
