Brahmas defeat Lytle, 7-3

KARNES CITY – Hallettsville seemed headed for a runrule game with Lytle after leading 7-0 in its area round playoff contest.

But things got a little dicey after Lytle rallied for three runs in the sixth inning before the Brahmas held on for a 7-3 victory at Perkins Field Friday night.

Lytle scored its runs on four hits, a hit batter and a walk.

Hudson Chenard (10-1) had given up just three hits before the sixth prior to ceding base hits to Toby Davila and Mason Hill. Devon Cordova was hit by the pitch to load the bases. Travis Norton hit a two-run single and Juan Delgado walked prior to Brock Bludau coming in to relieve Chenard. Bludau surrendered a RBI single to Nicholas Delgado, but a fine throw from right fielder Andrew George cut down Juan Delgado at the plate for the final out of the inning.

Bludau earned the save and gave up two hits and struck out one.

Seniors lead, the rest follow. Senior third baseman Monte Thigpen had a fine night with four runs batted in on a two-run triple and a two RBI single.

Andrew George collected two RBI with a triple and ground out.

The Pirates out-hit the Brahmas seven to five, but six Brahmas walked and one was hit by a pitch.

The Brahmas put across three runs in both the first and second innings.

George walked with one out in the first and advanced to third on Jorian Wilson’s double. Thigpen hit a 1-2 pitch that Pirate right fielder Nicholas Delgado made a valiant effort to come up with but failed. Thigpen went all the way to third for a triple to score George and Wilson. Travis Wagner grounded out to second to plate Thigpen.

The Brahmas scored three runs on two hits and three Pirate errors in the second inning.

Josh Griffin was safe on an error and Chenard hit a single to left field. Preston Wagner laid down a bunt which was mishandled by Pirate Mason Hill to load the bases. Brock Bludau grounded into a fielder’s choice. George grounded out to short to score Chenard. Bludau and George hit the plate after a single in the hole between short by Thigpen.

George’s triple in the fourth inning scored Preston Wagner after he had walked for a 7-0 advantage.

The Brahmas stranded only six baserunners and the Pirates five in a game that took two hours and three minutes to play.
