End of the road for Brahmas in 9-7 loss to Cobras
KARNES CITY –The Hallettsville Brahmas just simply ran out of ammunition.
The Brahmas succumbed to Vanderbilt Industrial, 9-7, at Curtis Perkins Field Friday night in the third round of the playoffs.
The Brahmas made a tremendous comeback after trailing 5-0 and 9-3.
Hudson Chenard started on the mound for the Brahmas and was relieved by Brock Bludau. Either did not have success prior to Jorian Wilson coming in and pitching three shutout innings.
Wilson gave up one hit, walked two and fanned six.
Chenard gave up five runs, five hits, walked three with two strikeouts.
Bludau was touched for four runs, three hits walked two and hit a batter.
Cobra southpaw Jace Chaney threw five-plus innings and gave up three runs (one unearned),, struck out five, walked three and hit a batter.
The Brahmas made it close in the sixth inning with four runs on only one hit. The big blow in the inning was a threerun double by Andrew George. Brock Bludau was hit by the pitch to force Josh Griffin in for the other run, but two runners were left stranded. Hallettsville had the tying run on base when the game ended.
The Cobras got a lot of free bases on four walks and two hit batsmen. Three of the walks scored and both hit batters came across. The Brahmas also took advantage of four walks and two hit batters.
The Cobras struck first with three runs in the initial inning.
Sam Kurtz and Casey Kubenka hit run-scoring singles in the frame and a run scored on an error. Hallettsville scored its first run when Tanner Wilson doubled down the left field line and scored when Josh Griffin was safe on a Cobra miscue.
Industrial made the score 5-1 with two runs in the second inning. Chaney drove in one run with an infield out and a base hit by Nick Kucher scored the other.
The Brahmas dented the plate twice in the fourth inning with Chenard driving in both with a single.
The Cobras batted around in the fifth inning. Kason Williams knocked in two of the runs with a single.
The Cobras (20-6) will meet Falfurrias (23-5-1) in the fourth round in a one game series.
