Austin Hunter selected to State FFA choir
The 96th Texas FFA Convention was held last week in Houston with the Texas FFA Chorus, a group of FFA members, performing each day at the event.
On Wednesday evening, July 10, the chorus had the opportunity to sing the National Anthem at Minute Maid Park prior to the Houston Astros/ Miami Marlins baseball game.
The group, made up of 30 talented individuals from throughout the state, were selected in April and were required to commit to being available for practice and performances each day at the convention.
One of the students selected to this honor was Austin Hunter, who is the son of former Hallettsville resident Heath Hunter and Tammy Hunter, both now residing in Houston.
Austin, 16, is an incoming junior and member of the Jersey Village FFA. He is extremely involved in volunteering for the Champion Cowboy Church of Hockley where he serves on the worship team and choir.
In the letter notifying Austin of his selection to the Texas FFA Chorus, the legendary leader of the chorus, Jeanna Baibos said, “Your hard work, dedication, and talent have truly paid off. Being chosen for this role is a testament to your musical abilities and your commitment to excellence. We are excited to hear your voice blend with those of other talented singers as you represent the spirit and values of the FFA. Best wishes for an enjoyable and fulfilling experience—sing loud and proud.”
“I’m grateful to have this opportunity to meet at the state convention and perform with the best in the Texas FFA,” Austin said. “I made new friendships and lots of good memories. I’m thankful for the teachers, Mrs. Hibdon, my FFA advisor, and Ms. Hernandez, my former choir director, who helped me get there.”
Austin is the grandson of Nancy Hunter and the late Hallettsville mayor Stephen Hunter. His maternal grandparents are Sherry and the late Johnnie Whiteley of Hockley, and Jimmy and Peggy Youngblood of Normangee.
