Court declares Oct. 14-18 as Chamber of Commerce Week
The Lavaca County Commissioners’ Court met in a regular meeting Wednesday morning, Oct. 16 and approved a proclamation declaring Oct. 14 through 18 as Chamber of Commerce Week for the City of Hallettsville.
The meeting was held two days later than the normal Monday due to Oct. 14 being a county holiday and the courtroom being unavailable on Tuesday, Oct. 15.
Reading from the proclamation, county judge Keith Mudd said, “The Hallettsville Chamber of Commerce has proudly represented the business community in the City of Hallettsville and Lavaca County for 90-plus years and has been a strong partner with the City of Hallettsville in endeavors to promote and develop our local community.”
Equipment Purchases
The court approved the purchase of a new 2024 Armor Lite 40-foot bottom dump trailer for Pct. 2.
The trailer will be purchased from Alamo City Trailer Sales LLC at a cost of $44,170.
The court also approved the purchase of a 2022 Bomag pneumatic roller with standard equipment for Pct. 3.
The roller will be purchased from R. B. Everett and Company of Pasadena at a cost of $175 thousand.
In regards to updates of the Lavaca County Road Plan and Paving, commissioner Wayne Faircloth reported on the potential delivery dates on three pieces of equipment including a chips spreader and RGN haul trailer, both expected to be delivered on Nov. 24.
Faircloth said a distributor truck’s potential delivery day is Feb. 25 of next year.
Festival of Lights
The court approved a request from the Festival of Lights committee to allow for them to host the 2024 Hallettsville FOL on the Courthouse Square.
The request, which came from Festival of Lights committee president Bobbie-Rae Burnes, included the use of city electricity for light testing and also the continuous nightly lighting from Nov. 30 through Jan. 6.
It also included decorating the Square’s lamp post with garland as well as on the courthouse fence and placing lighted Christmas trees, nativity scenes and other yard art on the courthouse lawn for a duration from Nov. 1 through Jan. 6. Other parts of the request involved decorating the gazebo and also using the main floor of the Courthouse to be used to host Santa and Mrs. Claus on Saturday, Nov. 30 from noon to 4 p.m.
Miscellaneous
The court approved a Lavaca County road bonus payment form as a lessee with Baytex Energy including .53 acres of land out of the William Chase survey in the amount of $795.
Announcement
Prior to the court addressing agenda items, Paul Yamarick announced the 2nd annual Lavaca County Day at the Capitol in Austin will be held on March 17, 2025. Yamarick said more details will follow.
In other action taken by the court:
• Approved the 2025 field agreement for wildlife damage management and predator control in Lavaca County.
• Approved certificates of exemption from subdivision requirements for Josephine Camarillo and Holly Pustejovsky.
• Approved a local public agency real estate acquisition report for the period from Sept. 1, 2023 through Aug. 31, 2024.
• Approved Lavaca County financial and grant policies.
• Approved a bond renewal records management officer Lisa Lowe.
• Heard a presentation from Globe Life Liberty National B.I.G. agency.
County Judge Keith Mudd presided over the meeting with commissioners Wayne Faircloth and Dennis W. Kocian present for the meeting.
