Brahmas secure playoff Berth with 55-3 victory over Bobcats

The Hallettsville Brahmas have suffered some close losses this season and took out their frustrations on the Hempstead Bobcats in a 55-3 District 12-AAA victory here Friday night.

The Brahmas amassed a season-high 425 yards and held the Bobcats to only 98 yards.

“I was very pleased with the way our team p e r f o r m e d a g a i n s t Hempstead,” Brahma head coach Levi Montgomery said. We knew from the beginning we were a deeper team, and should be able to pull away early.”

“Our starters really wanted to jump out to a lead and allow our second team guys a chance to play. They did that and our younger guys that don’t play a lot a were able to get in the game and play meaningful minutes” Montgomery added.”

Five Brahmas got into the column with quarterback Mycole Pegoda, halfback Tradyn Williams and halfback Chaseton Ford scoring two touchdowns apiece.

Pegoda provided 160 yards of offense - 74 passing and 86 rushing.

Ford had 63 yards rushing and 19 yards on pass receptions.

Hallettsville didn’t start well.

Hempstead, on the strength of a 49-yard pass from Lane Demuth to Dawayne Crawford put them on the Brahma 7-yard line. Hempstead failed to mover any farther and Josue Garcia missed a 24-yard field goal.

After the missed field goal, Hallettsville drove 80 yards in 8 plays with Pegoda going the final 34 yards for the touchdown. Lucas Hill kicked the first of eight extra points he had in the contest.

On the Brahmas next possession, Ford broke loose on a 42-yard touchdown run on a drive that covered 50 yards that took three plays.

With 9:39 remaining in the second quarter, Tradyn Williams scored from the 3-yard line after linebacker Carter Blaha recovered a bad snap at the points.

After a Hempstead field goal with 17 seconds before the half, the Brahmas scored quickly on a 5-yard by Williams after a 51-yard pass to Jack Amsden put them on the doorstep for a 34-3 lead at the intermission.

The Brahmas scored two touchdowns in the third quarter. Preston Wagner scored the first on a 9-yard run to end a 52-yard, 3-play drive. The second was on a 17- yard pass from back-up quarterback Wyatt Kram to Ford.

Kram ended the scoring with a 2-yard run with 4:07 left in the fourth period.
