Lavaca County youth join forces this Christmas
By Clayton Kelley
For the second year in a row, the youth of the Shiner Royal Court, Hallettsville Royal Court, and the Moulton Youth Ambassadors are gearing up for Deputy Santa.
These groups will collect gifts for newborns to ten-year-olds and senior citizens. Items being collected include toys, canned goods, and shoes.
The youth kicked off their collections this past weekend at Hallettsville’s Festival of Lights and Shiner’s Christmas in the Park. Moulton ambassadors joined the festivities at Christmas in the Park in Shiner on Sunday. Alma and Ana Lowe did an incredible job alongside the Shiner Royalty collecting donations this past Sunday.
Alma, the older of the sisters, gleamed with joy throughout the evening knowing she was helping others.
Miss Hallettsville Peyton Pasak, Junior Miss Hallettsville Manhattan Thompson, Miss Shiner Callie Sevcik, Junior Miss Shiner Patricia Price and Alma Lowe will lead the collection mission hoping to make this year more successful than last year.
These individuals will be donating their collections to the Lavaca County’s Deputy Santa program and Legacy Ranch Kids.
Hallettsville Deputy Sheriff Deputy Santa Coordinator J.R. Peters was happy to hear that the youth will be helping with collection again this year. He expressed the need for new unwrapped toys for children and canned goods for the senior residents.
Legacy Ranch Regulatory Compliance Supervisor Charlotte Ludwig said there’s a constant need for shoes for children residing at Legacy Ranch. They are also taking gently used toys as well as new toys for the children at the ranch.
The youth will also accept monetary donations which can be earmarked for the specific organizational need or a general fund which will be divided amongst the needs of these two organizations.
Those wanting to help or in need of more details can contact the Shiner Chamber of Commerce at 361- 594-4180.
“I’m excited to have the opportunity to give back to other youth this Christmas,” Junior Miss Shiner Patricia Price said.
Price along with Miss Shiner Callie Sevcik expressed how generous and supportive the local communities have been and they are excited to know they are helping to put a smile on other faces this holiday season.
