April 13 - 19: National Telecommunicators Week
The Lavaca County Commissioners’ Court meeting on Tuesday, March 25 was busy approving proclamations with one of them designating April 13 through 19 as National Telecommunicators Week.
County Judge Keith Mudd read from the proclamation saying, “When an emergency occurs the prompt response of police officers, firefighters and paramedics is crucial to the protection of life and preservation of property.”
Mudd said public safety dispatchers are the first and single most critical contact citizens have with emergency services.
They are also the single vital link for police officers and firefighters by monitoring their activity by radio and providing them information to ensure their safety.
“Public safety dispatchers of the Lavaca County Sheriff ’s Office have contributed substantially to the apprehension of criminals, the suppression of fires and the treatment of patients,” Mudd said. “Each LCSO dispatcher has exhibited compassion, understanding and professionalism during the performance of their job in the past year.”
