Commissioners support new district court
At the Tuesday, March 25 Commissioners’ Court meeting, the court approved a resolution supporting the creation of a District Court that would include Gonzales, Colorado and Lavaca counties.
The resolution said, “The new district court is planned to begin on Jan. 1, 2027 and would have a geographic jurisdiction covering the three counties.”
According to the resolution, planning the creation of the new district court would allow the withdrawal of the jurisdiction of the Second 25th Judicial District Court in January 2026.
The new geographic jurisdiction of the Second 25th District Court would be limited to Guadalupe County.
“It is anticipated that the geographic jurisdiction of the 25th District Court will remain in each Guadalupe, Gonzales, Lavaca and Colorado counties until further action of the Texas legislature to provide a transition for the changes,” the resolution said. “It is also understood that the Adult Community Supervision Department for Lavaca County, that is currently being operated as a tri-county department that includes Gonzales, Lavaca and Colorado counties, shall remain intact provided by a Texas government code.”
