In person early voting for the Moulton Independent School District is coming up soon.

Voters wishing to cast their ballot early can vote at the Moulton Community Center located at 102 Veterans Drive, Moulton.

Early voting will be held from Tuesday, April 22 through Friday, April 25 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and April 28 and 29 at the same time.

The general election will be held Saturday, May 3 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. also at the Community Center.

There are currently eight people running for the school board positions. For Place 1, Debra Luksovsky and Cody Maresh are running. Place 2 candidates are Jill Moore and Robert Nieto. Place 6 candidates are Clifton Miller and Jordan Dees. Those running unopposed are Place 3 Elizabeth Smolik and Place 5 Sherry Fishbeck.

Interim Superintendent Bill Hefner encourages folks to make their voice be heard by voting in this election.

“I encourage all to vote as your vote is your voice,” Hefner said. “School boards shape the future of our kids which shapes the future of our nation.”

There are some key challenges the new school board should be focusing on according to Hefner.

“Board members will likely have to continue to monitor the finances of the district very carefully in the future even though significant steps have been taken recently to improve the overall financial picture moving forward,” Hefner said. “In addition to the finances, we will be keeping an eye on academic accountability for the district so that the high levels of performance are maintained.”

The district has been going through some changes lately, specifically with the school board and the change in leadership.

Hefner said there are top priorities for the district in the upcoming school year and the new school board members can influence those goals.

“Maintaining a strong financial situation, high academic performance, and creating a great place to work for our dedicated staff members are needed for the future,” Hefner said. “I always consider any school board election to be of high importance. School board members make decisions that influence the lives of children which shape the future for all of us as our next generation of leaders.”
