Memorial Day ceremonies to be held Monday

Poppies will be distributed Friday

The Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 870, the Lavaca Memorial Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6382 and the American Legion Hudgeon’s Post 230 will host Memorial Day ceremonies on Monday, May 26 at the Sacred Heart Family Center located on S. Glendale St. in Hallettsville.

The organizations will honor the men and women who fought and died in all wars involving the United States.

The event will begin at 7:30 a.m. with the naming of Lavaca County Armed Forces personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty and a bell will be rung as each soldier’s name is mentioned.

Promptly at 8 a.m., a memorial ceremony program will begin with retired U.S. Air Force Capt. James Reeves serving as the featured speaker. Light refreshments will be served at the ceremony.

Following the ceremony, veterans will venture to the Sacred Heart and Hallettsville cemeteries located on Cemetery Rd. to replace flags on the veteran grave sites.

They are asking, those who can help, to assist them with the replacement of the flags.

Poppy Sales

On Friday, May 23, the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 230 will be distributing poppies and invite Hallettsville residents to stop by to receive a poppy in exchange for a donation.

Wearing the poppy is done to remember those who paid the ultimate sacrifice for the freedoms of our country.

Members of the Auxiliary will be located at Hoffer’s Drive-In, Brookshire Brothers and Kountry Bakery throughout the morning.
