Appelt recognized as Lavaca County Friend of Conservation
Jimmy Appelt of Hallettsville was awarded the 2025 Lavaca County Friend of Conservation award by the Lavaca Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD).
The purpose of this award is to recognize outstanding examples of assistance that an individual has provided to their local SWCD.
The key qualification is a strong interest in and support of conservation as well as a record of outstanding volunteer contributions.
“We appreciate everything that Jimmy has done for us,” Dennis Haas, Chairman of the Lavaca SWCD said. “He has been a great help to our SWCD by promoting our local conservation activities and events.”
Appelt has assisted the Lavaca SWCD with their Stewardship Week Proclamation signing with the Lavaca County judge, taking photos of the Conservation Poster and Essay winners at local schools, and writing and publishing articles about the SWCD.
“We appreciate Jimmy’s role and involvement at the Hallettsville Tribune Herald, as it is a true local newspaper that focuses on our community,” Haas said. “I believe that more people know about the Lavaca SWCD because of him.”
The Lavaca SWCD also recently nominated Appelt in the Texas Conservation Awards Program for Friend of Conservation.
Appelt received First Place in Area 3, a territory that covers 50 counties in South and South-Central Texas, and was recognized at the Conservation Awards Banquet in Cuero on May 6.
