St. John Picnic Friday

The St. John the Baptist Catholic Church picnic Friday, July 4 and will be its 137th anniversary for holding the picnic.

All activities will be held at the church’s grounds located at 7026 FM 957 and will begin with a Mass celebrated at 9 a.m.

Following the Mass, a flag raising ceremony will take place at 10 a.m and all veterans are encouraged to attend.

The traditional picnic lunch, consisting of fried chicken, homemade stew and the trimmings will be available starting at 10:30 a.m for both dine-in and platesto-go.

The cost per plate is $14 each.

Also starting at 10:30 a.m., and for the remainder of the day and evening, a free dance will be offered with music provided by the Dujka Brothers, Red Ravens, Mark Halata and Texavia and the Nathan Colt Young Band.

The auction starts at 12:30 p.m. and a Country Store as well as a cake walk, ball throw, ring toss, “lil diggers” sand pile and more entertainment will be available for the young and old throughout the day.

An assortment of food and drinks including sno-cones and hamburgers along with soft drinks, and beer will be available during the day and evening as well.

The prize give-away drawing will take place at 7 p.m. and you do not need to be present to win any of the prizes.

The picnic will conclude with a Fourth of July fireworks show taking place at 9:30 p.m.

The parish welcomes everyone to come out for a day that promises to be fun for all, and also visit the old St. John the Baptist Catholic Church that was built in 1888.
