The Weather Report

June is one of the wettest months of the year and the much-needed rainfall totaling 6.09 inches was much appreciated.

Rain fell on nine days with the heaviest of 2.36 inches coming on the 12th as multiple showers passed over the county. The amount was the most since 1.97 inches on January 9th.

Another round of vivid lightening and booming thunder accompanied the storms.

Precip for the first half of the year now totals 17.85 inches, which is 4.23 inches below the normal average.

Rainfall records include 24.68 inches in 1936 and zero in 1915. The 24.36 inches is an all-time one month record for the city.

Temperatures for the month saw a high of 97 degrees on the 5th and a low of 72 degrees on the first. High temps averaged 92.8 degrees (normal is 92.3), while lows were booked at 73.2 degrees (normal is 70.9).

The month’s record high of 109 degrees was set on June 27, 1980. The month’s record low of 52 degrees was set on June 2, 1926.

Thunder was heard on 11 days and fog was seen on five mornings.

JULY FORECAST

The latest NWS forecast for July notes hotter than normal temperatures and below normal rainfall. The month should see at least one tropical system in the gulf.
