Annual Schulenburg Festival set for next weekend
The annual Schulenburg Festival, also known as the “National Party of Texas” is set for next weekend that promises fun for everyone.
Thursday, July 31
The festival begins Thursday evening with no admission charge for the night. Festival goers can get a preview of what is all offered during the weekend that includes the carnival and Kid Zone, a rodeo slack and plenty of refreshments.
Dawson Debord and Southpaw of Yoakum will perform on stage during the evening.
Friday, Aug. 1
Friday and Saturday events will also include the CPRA/UPRA Rodeo with a number of rodeo events offered, including bull riding.
Mutton bustin’ will take place along with inaugural Fayette County Calf Scramble.
Also on Friday a carnival will be set up for the first time since 2022 and a Kid Zone will be available.
For everyone 13 and over planning to attend the carnival and Kid Zone after 5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday will have to purchase a festival ticket to enter the park.
Friday’s music will kickoff with Texas artist Erica Daniels sharing her electric music experience.
Daniels will precede the Logan Ryan Band, a Red Dirt country and Americana band.
In addition to the Logan Ryan Band, Desert Highway, an Eagles tribute band, will also perform during the night.
“Friday will be a nice mix of familiar tunes and new Texas country artist,” Schulenburg CCA president Michael Zweschper said.
Saturday, Aug. 2
Saturday will contain a full day of activities and music that includes both IBCA and CASI sanctioned BBQ and chili contests as well as local competition for BBQ chili, beans, bloody Mary and salsa contests.
The festival will also have a number of options in competition including cornhole, softball, basketball and golf.
Also on Saturday, the Fun Run will kickoff the morning and later the Young Farmers egg toss and cow chip throwing contest will take place as well as the dunking booth, kiddie parade and tricycle races taking place.
Dozens of arts and crafts vendors will be open near the pavilion and class reunions will also be taking place with Bishop Forest and Schulenburg High graduates having a chance to relive old times.
Saturday’s musical entertainment will begin at noon with the Barditch Hippies performing. They will be followed by the Texas Sundown Band and the Matt Bonner Band, homegrown band playing familiar sounds.
The official band of the National Party of Texas, the Texas Unlimited Band (TUB) will play preceding the festival’s headliner, Texas-born singer, songwriter and guitarist Tanner Usrey taking the stage around 9:30 p.m.
Sunday, Aug. 3
The festival will continue Sunday with many of the same activities as Saturday as well with the annual parade taking a route through downtown Schulenburg.
For the third day, musical entertainment is lined up with The Czechaholics kicking things off in the early afternoon.
The Black Cat Choir of Round Top will take the stage next and TUB will close out the weekend, as they have for the past several years.
Admission Cost
Gate admission for activities on Friday night is $20 and on Saturday evening after 5 p.m. the cost of a ticket is $25.
