Practice for fall sports begins

Football, volleyball, and cross country practice begins Aug. 4 for local high schools next week.

Wanda Orsak begins here 35th year as the head coach of Sacred Heart volleyball.

Orsak will have to replace Annika Brooks who signed with Blinn College.

Setters Rylan Dworsky and Kenzie Chance return to the fold.

Orsak expects 25-30 out and will practice Monday through Thursday 8 a.m. until noon.

Hallettsville Brahma head football coach Levi Montgomery expects 75 players.

The Brahmas will practice from 9 a.m. until noon.

Montgomery has 7/5 starters returning including quarterback Mycole Pegoda.

Colt Edmonds will add speed at receiver and big Dillon Brittain (285) will anchor the offensive line.

The Brahmas scrimmage Marion in Marion Aug. 14 and Giddings/ Schulenburg here Aug. 21 before opening the season Aug. 29 at home against Shiner.

Sacred Heart coach Rodney Dowell is in his first year and hit the ground running when he took the job in March.

Dowell expects about 30 players out with practice starting Monday, Aug. 4.

Dowell will need to replace Andrew Steffek at quarterback and said he had three candidates for the position.

Linemen Brody Etzler, Timber Janak and Bowen Hawkins return along with receiver Ty Noska.

Hallettsville head volleyball coach Courtney Olbert will try to steer the Lady Brahmas in the right direction after three straight losing seasons.

The Lady Brahmas begin practice Saturday, Aug. 2.

The first scrimmage is Friday, Aug. 8.
