Brahmas host S’burg, Giddings

Hallettsville will host a three-way scrimmage with Giddings and Schulenburg here Thursday starting at 6 p.m. with the JV.

Brahma head coach Levi Montgomery was pleased with the scrimmage against Marion in Marion Thursday.

“Overall, I was pleased with the work we got done,” Montgomery said. “At this point, we are ahead offensively than defensively. Kason Podhajsky has a good day at quarterback and it appears he can handle that position, allowing us to use Mycole Pegoda in various ways on offense, which is very beneficial to us.

“Defensively, we struggled early as we were not prepared for the RPO concepts we had not prepared for.”

Montgomery said the defense forced two turnovers in the live scrimmage and outscored Marion 1-0.

Starting free safety Sutton Haynes went down with a knee injury and his return is not known.

“I expect us to improve and iron out some things as we match up with Schulenburg and Giddings this week,” Montgomery said.

Schulenburg had a successful 8-4 season last year and have a new head coach in Mike Jackson.

Receivers Jayce and Reid Janda return, but there is a question mark at quarterback.

Giddings is picked last in District 14, Division II.

The Buffaloes were 2-8 last fall.
