Comanches justify State ranking

Shiner is good. Very good.

The Comanches ended three years of frustration with a 39-7 victory over Hallettsville to end a three-game losing streak to the Brahmas here Friday night.

Both the Comanche offense and defense were nothing short of sensational. Shiner totaled 456 yards in the game while holding the Brahmas to a 205 yards.

Brahma head coach Levi Montgomery’s take on the game: We couldn’t stop the run and we couldn’t run the ball. Shiner dominated in all facets of the game.”

The Brahmas scored with 7:41 remaining in the fourth period to avoid the shutout.

Shiner took advantage of a short field and had to go just 55, 40 and 57 yards on three of its drives and scored on four of five possessions in the first half.

The Comanches took the opening kickoff and drove 70 yards in 10 plays with halfback Quincy Jones scoring from 10 yards out and Jacob Nerada kicked the extra point. The biggest chunk of the yardage came on a 40-yard run by halfback Quincy Jones.

Halfback Caleb Cowan capped a 55-yard 10- play drive with a 12-yard run with 10:31 left in the second quarter for a 13-0 advantage.

Quarterback Jarvis Williams scored on a 29- yard burst to complete a 55-yard, 5-play drive for a 19-0 lead and the Comanches made it 25-0 at the intermission on a 58-yard pass from Williams to Jones.
