Charles Henry Christ

Charles Henry Christ passed away on Friday, May 12, 2023 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Charles was born on Oct. 16, 1935 in Hallettsville, and graduated from Sacred Heart Catholic School where he was a member of the school’s first band.

Charles was a fixture at Grahmann’s/Rainosek’s True Value Hardware for over fifty (50) years where his customer service and knowledge of guns and ammunition were legendary.  Charles also served in the Texas National Guard for ten (10) years and was proud of his many years as a Lavaca County Reserve Sheriff’s Deputy.  In addition, Charles was a Federal Licensed Firearms Dealer.

In 1986, Charles found the love of his life and married Charlene Ann Janak. They enjoyed working in the yard together and traveling to see grandchildren.  Charles was a self-taught individual who was a master of many trades dependent on the need around the house.  Charles and Charlene especially loved traveling and exhibiting in gun shows around the State and enjoyed two trips to Europe to visit the homeland and family.

Charles was a beloved grandfather who gave wonderful experiences to his grandchildren.  Whether hunting, fishing, learning to shoot guns, riding three-wheelers, going to Victoria, or spoiling everyone with ice cream and cookies, Charles was a steady figure in the life of his family.

In their latter years in Tulsa, Charles provided support and care for Charlene even as they incurred health challenges. He went above and beyond to love his wife but he did find some time to visit casinos in Tulsa where the “Chuckster” would sometimes be the “big winner”!

Charles is survived by his twin brother, Alfred A. Christ; two step-children, Timothy (Carmen) Janak of Tulsa and Tammy Hastings of San Antonio; six grandchildren, Jaden (La’kayla) Janak of Austin,  Blake of Tulsa, Taylre (Sean) Janak of Dallas, Huston (Kamryn) Janak of Tulsa, Rory (Faith) Brandow and Skyler (Robert) Brandow, all of San Antonio; one great-grandaughter, Lennix Ivory Leah Janak, of Tulsa; sister-in-Law, Claudia Tousek of New Braunfels, and other family and friends such as “Big Ed” and “Big John” from Tulsa and a host of lovable grand-pets (Phantom, Wellington, Stitch, Solo, Marley, and  Apollo.)
