Delores Kartman Chaloupka

Delores Kartman Chaloupka, 89, passed away Monday, Sept. 11, 2023 with her family by her side. 

Delores was born in Hallettsville on Sept. 1, 1934 to Louis and Annie Volcik Kartman.

Delores was raised in the Moravia community with her sister, Dot. She attended school in Moravia and graduated as Salutatorian of her class. 

Delores met Charles Chaloupka and they were married on Feb. 1, 1954. To this union one daughter, Teri, was born. 

Delores was employed at Perry Bros. in Hallettsville until 1968 when she started working at Hoffer’s Drive In Grocery. She worked there for over 50 years. She retired from Hoffer’s in 2020 at the age of 86. 

Retirement did not slow that Bohemian down. She was the pickle-making queen, cooking for anyone who was hungry and just being herself that made her special. 

She was preceded in death  by her parents, and her husband, Charlie.

Delores is survived by her daughter, Teri (Shug); grandson, Taylor Albrecht (Ashley); three great-granddaughters, Raleigh, Britley and Shaylee; sister, Dorothy Kana (Willie); a sister-in-law, Bessie Chaloupka Dornak; special family friend, A.J. Brown, and a host of nieces and nephews.  

To her second family at Hoffer’s Drive In: Richard, Big John, Wimpy and etc. for 9,000 good times in the morning.

Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 21 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hallettsville.
