Doris Faye Allee
Doris Faye Allee passed away peacefully in her sleep at her home on Monday, Nov. 20, 2023, at the age of 86. She was born on July 17, 1937, in Vienna, Lavaca County, to Daniel and Mary Lucille Kelley.
Doris married J. W. “Dub’ Allee on Aug. 31, 1957, at the First Baptist Church in Hallettsville.
She and Dub remained in Hallettsville for a little while, and then moved to Yoakum where they raised their three children, Lisa, Kelley, and Shane.
Doris was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who loved spending time with family, working in the family cattle business, and puttering around in her garden and with her plants. Another favorite of Doris' was her love of cooking, canning, and collecting recipes and then trying those new dishes. She was an amazing cook whose door was always open, and all were welcomed at her table.
Doris worked for Hallettsville Junior High for over 22 years as a 5th and 6th grade math teacher. She quickly became her students’ favorite teacher, and they still remember her fondly to this day.
After retirement in 1997, Doris and Dub moved back to Hallettsville where they enjoyed RV traveling with friends, hosting family gatherings, church events, and coffee breakfasts at the Kountry Bakery on Tuesday mornings with the free donut as a bonus.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church where she was actively involved for over 25 years. Let's not forget her favorite pastime of playing dominos at church, where she loved to play the game "42" and get a hand of "low" and win! Her grandchildren learned the hard way that she wouldn’t “let” them win a game… they had to learn how to win.
Doris was a sweet, loving lady who will be dearly missed by all.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents, Daniel and Lucille Kelley, her husband of 49 years, J.W. “Dub” Allee, and granddaughter Amanda Renee McElwee.
Doris is survived by: her children, Lisa Cross and her husband, J.W. of Santa Fe, Kelley Allee and his wife, Donna of Giddings, and Shane Allee and his wife, Kimberly of Huntsville; grandchildren, Arynn Cross, Colton Allee and his wife, Allison, Ashton McGonagle and her husband, Will, Raina Allee, Kaden Allee and Kimberlyn Allee; step-grandchildren, Derrick Cross, Amber Heil, Jeffrey Cross, Maci Jones, Hunter Countz and Kendall Douthitt; great-grandchildren, Matthew and Zachary McGonagle, Jackson, Jayden and Jordan Cross, Elijah and Rylan Cross, Katelynn Donovan, Olivia and Grant Heil, and Sophia Jones; loving brother, Johnny Carl Kelley and his wife, Esther of Hallettsville; and many loving nieces and nephews.
