Elizabeth Roznovsky "Liz" Sustr

Elizabeth Roznovsky “Liz” Sustr was born on July 12, 1932 and passed away on Thursday, May 26, 2022.  She was 89 years old.  Liz was born in the Witting/St. Mary’s area about 10 miles southeast of Moulton on the Roznovsky homestead, to Ludwig and Johanna Kutach Roznovsky.  

Liz was the youngest of nine children, three half-sisters, three brothers and two sisters.  Liz and her family had a happy life despite many hardships including the loss of their home to a fire and her father’s death in 1946.

In 1950 Liz moved with her mother, Johanna to Houston.  Liz went to work as a welder at APCO Aluminum Products Company makers of aluminum windows.  

On Jan.  14, 1956 Liz married the love of her life, Samuel James Sustr, son of Jim and Annie Sustr.  

Liz continued working at APCO until 1960 and  then devoted her time to her family.  Liz went back to work part-time in the 1970’s as a cashier at her brother, Louis Roznovsky’s thriving Roznovsky’s Hamburgers at Feagan and Birdsal.  

Later in the 1980’s Liz worked for Louis’ son and her nephew, Ron Roznovsky at his burger establishment on T.C. Jester where she worked until she retired on April 2, 1992. Immediately after retiring Liz and Sam moved back to Moulton and built a new home, moving in November of 1992 where they had many good times despite many health issues for Liz.

Liz and Sam had two sons, Stanley Sustr and Scott Sustr.  Stan graduated from the University of Houston in 1980 and worked for American Medical International until 1990 when he moved to the Dallas area settling in Allan, where he worked for Perot Systems and Dell Services until he began semi-retirement, working part time, in 2014.  Scott graduated Lamar High School in 1980 and moved to Moulton to work with his grandfather, Jim Sustr, farming and ranching. Scott and Sam formed S&S Cattle Company where Scott continues to work.

Liz was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Moulton and the American Legion Auxiliary.

Liz’s hobbies were playing bingo, collecting coins (primarily pennies), mowing the grass, gardening, working cattle with her husband, Sam and son, Scott, and traveling with her husband and son, Stan. 

Liz was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel James Sustr on Oct. 21, 2019; her parents, Ludwig and Johanna Kutach Roznovsky; half-sisters, Justina Kolos and husband, Joe; Annie Doubrava and husband, Bohumil; Maggie Bollom and husband, Johnnie; sisters, Vera Berckenhoff and husband, Rudy; Pauline Welfl and husband, Fred Sr.; brother, Louis Roznovsky and wife, Marion; brother, George Roznovsky, and brother-in law and sister-in-law, Ben J. Sustr and Rene Sustr

Liz is survived by son, Stanley Sustr; son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Peggie Sustr; step-grandchildren, Nicole Chaloupka and husband, Chad; Ryan Wagner and wife, Lori and Dustin Wagner and wife, Stacy; step-great-grandchildren, Avery Wagner, Preston Wagner, Madelynn Wagner, Landon Chaloupka, Bailey Wagner and Harper Wagner; brother and sister-in-law, Rudy and Georgie Roznovsky, and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will begin at 2:30 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home in Moulton. Rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. 

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Tuesday, June 7 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Moulton. Father Gabriel Maison will officiate. 

Burial will follow in the St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Moulton.
