Fred William Chovanetz

Fred William Chovanetz, 76, of Hallettsville, passed away Wednesday,  21, 2023.  

He was born on Dec. 10, 1946, in Cuero,  to Fred J. and Anna Belle Buehrig Chovanetz. 

 On April 9, 1967, he married LaVerne Muehr at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hallettsville, and were blessed with one son, Christopher.

Fred retired from Alcoa after being employed there for 30 years. 

 After a few years, he went to work at Hoffer’s Drive In Grocery, which he enjoyed. He loved being in the country feeding his deer and calves that he raised.

Fred is survived by his wife of 56 years, LaVerne; son, Christopher Chovanetz and wife, Michele; grandchildren, Kayleigh and Kyler Chovanetz; brothers, James Chovanetz and wife Rida, and Charles Chovanetz and wife, Julie; sister, Natalie Brandt and husband, Jimmy; sister-in-law, Mary Sparks, and nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Mike Chovanetz, and sister-in-law, Kathleen Chovanetz.

Many thanks to the staffs of Stevens Nursing and Rehab Center and Hospice of South Texas for their excellent care with love and dignity, which was provided by all.

Visitation will begin at 9 a.m., Saturday, July 8 at Kubena Funeral Home in Hallettsville Memorial service is set for 10 a.m. at the Funeral Home.  

Memorials (in lieu of flowers) may be given to Hospice of South Texas or a charity of donor’s choice.
