Harvey was born in Houston on March 4, 1947, to Irene and Harvey Pohler, Sr. He grew up on his family’s farm in Witting and attended Oak Grove School. He graduated from Moulton High School. He served in the Texas National Guard. He then started his career as an automotive mechanic and ran a successful mechanical shop until his retirement.
He married his wife of 51 years, Vernice Allene Rybak on May 22, 1971. Harvey and Vernice were blessed with six children and 10 grandchildren. Family was the most important thing in his life.
Harvey enjoyed spending time with his family more than anything else. He loved cooking and was a brilliant inventor and craftsman that could build or fix anything. He was the most laid-back man that took everything life threw at him with a grain of salt. He enjoyed vacations at the coast and fishing. After retirement, you could always find him in his shop inventing and building something new.
Survivors include his wife Vernice Pohler; his children, Harvey Dwayne (Shawnna), Jaime (Monique), Craig (Erin), Alicea (Greg), Chris, and Brittany (Joel); 10 grandchildren: Landyn, Bryce, Eastyn, Brayden, Cale, Colby, Braxton, Emma, Harper, and Charlotte; brothers, Donald Pohler (Gerrie) and Michael Pohler (Deralee); and sister-in-law, Cornelia Pohler.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey and Irene Pohler; his mother and father-in-law, Dorothy and Joe Rybak; brother Boyce Pohler; and nephew, Matthew Pohler.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully asks that you donate in Harvey’s name to the Shiner Academic and Athletic Foundation, P.O. Box 1374, Shiner, TX 77984.
