Jeanne Marie McClain

Jeanne Marie McClain, 79, of Schulenburg, passed away on Thursday, April 6, 2023 in Hallettsville.

She was born in Houma, Louisiana on July 6, 1943 to Clarence Gene Matherne and Delphine Ann (Cenac) Matherne.

On June 28, 1980 she married David Frank McClain Sr.

Jeanne worked as a registered nurse for many years both stateside and in Australia. 

She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hallettsville. 

Jeannie enjoyed quilting and belonged to quilting groups in both Columbus and Hallettsville. She loved to bake cookies during the holidays with her grandkids. She also enjoyed drinking coffee on the patio as she watched the cattle go ground on the farm she and Frank lived on in Rock Island. Jeanne also treasured the time she had raising their son, Davis and spending time with her grandchildren. 

Jeanne is survived by her son, Davis Frank McClain, II and wife, Shonda of Brookshire; grandchildren, William McClain, Kaylee Besselman, Katelyn McClain, and Kassie McClain; sister,  Clodel Trees of Katy; brother, Paul Matherne and wife, Debbie of Broussard, Louisiana.  

She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Delphine Matherne; her husband, Davis Frank McClain Sr.; brother, Gene Matherne; sister, Alice Chadwick.

Visitation began at 5 p.m. and continued until 7 p.m., Tuesday, April 11 at Henneke Funeral Home in Columbus. 

Funeral service was held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, April 12 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hallettsville. Msgr. John Peters officiated.  

Visitation at the church was from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. 

Burial took place in Myrtle Cemetery in Rock Island. 

Memorials may be given to a charity of donor’s choice.
